Kids Love Morning Math!

Each morning from 8:10am to 8:30am, Edgemont students gather in the library before school to voluntarily enrich their math skills. Most days, between 25 and 35 children in grades 1-5 arrive eager to work on computer programs to enhance their learning. Older children are often helping younger ones and this enhances self-esteem, friendships and better test scores.

"Our students really have become 21st century learners. We are very proud of their commitment and applaud their desire to succeed in math," said Edgemont's Principal Cheryl Hopper. Software and online resources are used at a variety of levels depending on student needs to enrich, reinforce, and accelerate. Online programs along with networked software, allow Edgemont's Technology Coordinator, Traci Cioffi and Math Specialist, Lisa Adams, to track student progress and individualize instructional programs. Many of these programs have been paid for through the generosity of the Montclair Fund for Educational Excellence (MFEE) and the Edgemont PTA.
